Barry was born in Zambia ( then Northern Rhodesia) and his childhood and youth was spent in various places in southern Africa and England. He matriculated at CBC Kimberley, having also attended Kearsney College and Truro School in Cornwall. After school Barry studied at UCT obtaining his BA in 1980 and his LLB in 1982. He did his articles with Herold Gie and Broadhead and practised as a litigation associate there before joining Cape of Good Hope Bank and spending 15 years in banking with the Nedbank group. In 2004 Barry returned to the profession and has been in private practice since then. He founded Dorrington Jessop Inc with Graeme Dorrington in 2011. Barry’s professional areas of expertise are now focused on Estates, Wills, Trusts and curatorships.  He has experience in property law, banking, and insolvency work as well.

Outside of practice Barry is married to Marianne and they and have two sons, both married, one living in Spain and the other in the Netherlands. No grandchildren yet! Barry serves and has served on various trusts and organisations including Wynberg Boys High School SGB ( as chair in 2011), Christ Church Kenilworth as a Parish Warden and The Sunflower Fund as a director.

He has had a lifelong obsession with cricket, but his sporting pursuits are now restricted to swimming and walking ( both slowly).
